How to Seal Slate Floor Tile?

Slate floor tile is a porous stone quarried from deposits around the world. Its porous nature allows unsealed slate to absorb moisture, so slate floor tiles need to be sealed to prevent water and soil absorption as well as to allow for easy washing and quick drying.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions: Things you'll need: mild soap, bucket, cleaning rag, paint stirring stick, sealant, 3-inch paintbrush
1. Apply a mild soap and water solution with a cleaning cloth to wash all dirt from the slate floor tile. Allow to dry thoroughly.
2. Completely stir the sealant with a paint stirring stick to blend all components of the sealant thoroughly. Scrape the sides and bottom of the container while stirring to blend in all of the solid ingredients. Stir gently to avoid creating any bubbles in the sealant.
3. Start from the end of the room farthest from the entrance. Use a three-inch paintbrush to brush the sealant onto the tile, working with the grain of the slate. Dip the paintbrush into the sealant to cover less than half of the bristles. Apply a smooth, even coat without puddles or drips.
4. Allow the sealant to dry for for at least two hours or according to manufacturer's recommendations. Apply a second coat.
5.Allow to dry according to the label before placing furniture or walking on the floor.
